The Garmin GI 275 is a state-of-the-art flight instrument that can directly replace legacy primary flight instruments in the cockpit such as the attitude indicator, attitude directional indicator, course deviation indicator, horizontal situation indicator. Able to serve as a 4-in-1 flight instrument, the GI 275 can also be used as a standby to a broad range of glass flight displays and is available with a 60 minute backup battery. The lightweight and compact instrument is designed to be compatible with the standard 3.125 inch flight instrument size, reducing installation time and preserving the existing aircraft panel. It is also compatible with most third-party autopilot systems without a separate adapter.
Many variants of the GI 275 exist to meet the needs of more than one thousand business and general aviation aircraft models. In addition to the traditional display of attitude, airspeed and altitude, features of the GI 275 include the option to display the course deviation indicator, horizontal situation indicator, and engine information. It is also capable of displaying multifunction display-like features including traffic, weather, terrain, Safe Taxi airport diagrams, optional Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT) and others.
When used as a primary attitude indicator, the GI 275 provides improved reliability, weight savings, and reduced maintenance when compared to vacuum driven attitude indicators which are prone to failure. In addition to displaying attitude information, the instrument can also show altitude, airspeed, and heading. Optional SVT also provides a three-dimensional topographic view of terrain, traffic, obstacles, airport signs, and more. Users can also overlay a flight path marker over the SVT view, which takes crosswind, angle of attack, and other factors into consideration.
The GI 275 can be installed as a CDI or HSI, as it is designed to accept a variety of GPS or navigation inputs. Additionally, the GI 275 allows for up to two GPS sources as well as two VHF navigation sources. It features an Omni Bearing resolver that allows the flight instrument to interface to a variety of legacy navigators without the need for an adapter. With an optional added magnetometer, the instrument becomes capable of providing magnetic-based HSI guidance.
When used to display engine information, the GI 275 is able to interface with certain single- and multi-engine normally aspirated or turbocharged aircraft. This primarily includes such aircraft as those with Lycoming and Continental 4/6-cylinder engines. When the GI 275 is used in place of mechanical gauges and is configured as primary for engine information, it can display critical information including RPM, manifold pressure, oil pressure and temperature, cylinder head temperature (CHT), exhaust gas temperature (EGT), turbine inlet temperature (TIT), fuel flow, fuel quantity, fuel pressure, volts and amps.
Finally, built-in Wi-Fi allows the wireless transfer of aviation databases to and from the GI 275. Pilots also have the option of transferring databases to the instrument via a USB flash drive. Databases can also be synced among multiple GI 275 instruments within a lone cockpit. The GI 275 represents yet another step in the advancement of aviation technology.
